MESSIANIC JUDAISM IS NOT CHRISTIANITY

This post is directed to the few of you Jews who are descended from Abraham and not from the nephilem.

You have heard of and probably know people who have become messianic Jews or Jews For Jesus as they are sometimes referred. Perhaps you fit into this category yourself. Whichever category you belong to, I just want to tell you that messianic Judaism isn't Christianity.

In John 3, Jesus told Nicodemus, a pharisee, one of your ancestors who was a big wheel in the Jewish community back then, that he had to be born again. In other words, he had to stop doing things his way and start doing them Jesus's way. Nicodemus couldn't do this by just resolving that he was going to live according to what Jesus said. If he did this, he would be acting solely under his own power and he would fail. No, in order to be born again, Nicodemus had to repent. Repentance is what everyone, Jew and non-Jew must do in order to have salvation in Jesus Christ. You turn to God and ask for forgiveness for the bad things you've done. You let Him guide your life, instead of you exclusively trying to control things.

You say you believe that Jesus is the messiah? Good. Changing your mind about Jesus is what repentance is about and is what the original Greek word translated in English as repent means. However, a true change of mind is accompanied in change of action, attitude, etc.

Now, here is what you must do. You must ask God to forgive you of your sins and tell him you want His will to be done in your life. After that, you must be baptized, immersed in water. This is the other necessary part of having your sins taken away after repentance. In repentance, you die to yourself. In baptism, you are buried with Him as Romans says and you resurrect out of the water a new creature.

I can not urge strongly enough any Jews who sincerely believe that Jesus is the messiah to take these final steps. Don't delay, lest the devil snatch the idea from your heart.

So, you believe that baptism is necessary for salvation?

I disagree with you. Consider this verse:

"If you confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved." (Romans 10:9)

Baptism is something that we do in obedience to Christ. It is NOT necessary for salvation! Jesus even told one of the criminals who died with him that He would see him that day in paradise. I'm guessing that the criminal was never baptized after he believed.

Just a thought. I was interested in the title of this blog though. I would love for you to keep researching/posting about this topic once you've found out a lot more about it. I want to know what specific areas of MJ disagree with the doctrine of protestantism / the New Testament.

Mark 16 16 says "he that believeth and is baptized shall be saved." Acts 22 16 says "and now why tarriest thou arise and be baptized and wash away thy sins calling on the name of the Lord" 1 Peter 3 21 says "the like figure whereunto baptism doth also now save us not the putting away of the filth of the flesh but the answer of a good conscience toward God by the resurrection of Jesus Christ."

As for the thief on the cross, God is merciful. He didn't expect the thief to get baptized, and if someone repents but doesn't have time to get baptized, they will go to Heaven. Furthermore, when Jesus was on the cross, the new covenant hadn't come into effect. It only came into effect after Jesus died and was raised from the dead. Until then, salvation was His to give as He pleased.

I didn't really set out to write about how Messianic Judaism was different from Protestantism. I was reading "Betrayed!" by Stan Telchin and it struck me that he was never born again as John 3 says. He just kind of went from not believing Jesus Christ was the Messiah one moment to believing that He was the next. However, since you requested it, I will research Messianic Judaism more and write more posts about it.
